Kristina Meanley was born in Loma Linda, California on July 18, 1987. Her musical studies began at the age of eight, when she joined her elementary school's chorus. Quickly discovering her passion for music, she enrolled in piano organ lessons. In the sixth grade, she began playing the clarinet in the middle school band. Her involvement with the band encouraged her to compete in local and state competitions. She participated in the South Carolina All-State band for six years. In her sophomore year of high school, Kristina auditioned for and was accepted into the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Here she earned her high school diploma as well as a Scholar's Diploma in Music.
Kristina completed her undergraduate degree in 2009 at Florida State University under the instruction of Dr. Frank Kowalsky. At FSU, she was a member of the Symphonic Band, Wind Orchestra and University Philharmonia, in addition to performing a number of solo recitals.
Kristina is now pursuing a Master of Music degree at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she is expected to complete in the spring semester of 2012. She is a participant in the school’s symphony orchestra and wind ensemble. Here, Kristina has won the UNCSA Fall 2011 concerto competition performing Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. Additionally, she has been selected as a semi-finalist for the New World Symphony Fellowship Program. She currently studies with Dr. Oskar Espina-Ruiz. Other teachers include Robert Listokin, Alexander Fiterstein, Anthony Taylor, Deborah Bish, Joseph Rutkowski, Michael Burgio, Charles Messersmith, and Harry Hill. Upon graduation, Kristina expects to take auditions for orchestral positions around the United States. She also plans to pursue a Doctorate in Musical Arts degree. |
